CollegeBound Devotional: The Faithfulness of a Loving Father

We live today in a culture where a promise means very little. Our world has become inundated by unfaithfulness. Consequently, we have become people who are unable to trust each other. From marriage to business dealings to charity giving, unfaithfulness has led us into a situation where we must put everything in writing or else we face the possibility of being lied to, cheated on, or taken advantage of.

Fortunately, as Christians we can put our complete trust in the faithfulness of God. God cannot be unfaithful. It's not part of His character. The Bible teaches us God does not change; He is constant. Deuteronomy 7:9 says, "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands." First Thessalonians 5:24a says, "The one who calls you is faithful..."

Have you ever thought about the vast, unchanging character of God? How can you apply that truth to what you are facing in your life right now? Perhaps your doubt God's faithfulness because of your past, fear, guilt, hopelessness or depression. Even in the midst of your current situation -- whatever it is -- God is faithful. Second Timothy 2:13 says, "If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself." Whatever your circumstances may be, God's faithfulness to you is eternal no matter how far from Him you stray.

Back in the promise of God's faithfulness today, Psalm 89:8 reminds us there is nothing like the unchanging might of God. Let God's faithfulness surround you. He cannot be anything less than faithful. He can't help Himself!

READ: Psalm 89:1-9
WRITE: How have you noticed God's faithfulness: in your life? What has He done in the last few weeks to remind you He will not forsake you?
PRAY: Take a moment and ask God to reveal His faithfulness to you. He wants to hear your passions, concerns and doubts. He promises us He can handle whatever we dare to tell Him. Don't be shy!
LISTEN: "I Still Believe" from Jerry Camp's Stay (BEC).
INSIGHT: PFR's Joel Hanson of God's faithfulness : "My folks got divorced when I was young, so that really shattered a lot of pictures of what I thought family and love were. God came along when I was 17 and said, 'You know what? I'm your Father in ways you don't even understand.' He has proven that."
