There was a major problem back in the beginning of the Bible. The people God created turned against Him and went their own way. "The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that He had made man on the earth and His heart was filled with pain" (Gen. 6:5-6). As a result, God decided to wipe mankind from the earth. This is disheartening. The world was completely and totally engulfed with sin and against its Creator.
Well almost everyone.
There was a man and his family who loved God. "But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord" (Gen. 6:8). Why did Noah find favor with God? The next verse is the answer. "Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God" (Gen. 6:9). Noah was acting in harmony with God's qualities. He knew God. He knew the heart of God. He wanted to please God. Among the people of his day, Noah was maturing and growing in his relationship with God. He was righteous and blameless because of the friends he kept. How are you doing at knowing God? Do you desire to know Him above all other relationships?
I love what it says in chapter seven of Genesis. God told Noah to "Go into the ark, you and your family, because I have found you righteous in this generation" (Gen. 7:1). God found a man who was set apart for Him in his generation. I believe the same is true today. God is looking for a blameless generation in an aimless creation. In general, our world is not seeking the Lord, but I see a coming generation of college students who long to know the living God. Like Noah, you have the chance to make your walk blameless. The psalmist declared, "Lord, who may dwell in Your sanctuary? Who may live on Your holy hill? He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart" (Ps. 15:1-2). Take this opportunity during your college years to work at becoming part of a generation that loves the Lord with all of your heart and your neighbor as yourself. Imagine what would happen if not just a single family, but a whole generation was captivated by the God of the universe. It would be amazing. I want to be part of that generation.
