God’s Guidance

It is my experience that college students want guidance. Oh, sometimes there is a fight for the controls, but overall I think those who follower after Jesus want wisdom in their lives. There are so many decisions to be made during the young adult years. Who will be your greatest guide during this time? The prophet Isaiah tells us "the Lord will guide you always" (Isa. 58:11). True followers of Jesus are daily guided by the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:14). You can be assured that God is guiding your every step. Why?

First, Jesus is your shepherd. Jesus called himself the "good shepherd" twice (John 10:11, 14). It is normal for the best shepherd to guide your every step if you are dependent on him. He is will feed, protect and provide for you. It need to become normal for us to follow after Jesus in the little things during this time of your life.

Second, God is your father. God the Father does not dominate your life. He does not force you. He longs to draw you into intimacy with himself for your benefit and his glory. A good father wants the best for his children. The same is true of God for you.

Third, the Spirit is your counselor. As a believer in the one true God, you have the Holy Spirit inside of you. He is always there, sharing insights, saying go right and go left. When Jesus left the earth, he left the Counselor behind to help us know what is true (John 14:16-17).

Allow guidance to become normal in your life. Allow God to have his way in your mind, heart and daily decisions. Listen to his voice on a moment-by-moment basis. Tune into his frequency. Get to know the Father, Son and Holy Spirit through studying the Bible. Pray without stopping. Ask for his help in the little things. Listen to wise counsel. Watch and see that the Lord will guide you always.
